Necklaces to Match Casual Plus Size Clothing

November 25th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

Plus size women have a lot more fashion options now than they ever did in the past.  Even top designers are recognizing curvy women and including them in fashion shows.  Besides clothing though, some designers are even producing plus size jewelry.  Here are some ideas for matching necklaces to your casual plus size clothing to create a nice outfit.

Although there are lots of different styles of necklaces, a casual necklace will usually fall just below your collarbone.  Most plus size necklaces come in 18 inch, 24 inch, and 32 inch lengths to fit women of any size.  This also gives you the freedom to wear your necklace at the length that you prefer.  There are several different styles and lengths for you try out, so why not experiment with a few different types to see what works best for you?

What should you do if you find a great necklace but it isn’t quite the length you need?  Fortunately, you can use a jewelry extender to make it fit you a bit better.  These extenders are simple clasps that come in all different chain styles and finishes so you are sure to find one that fits your necklace style.  They can help you lengthen your necklace perfectly so it complements your casual plus size clothing.

Matching Jewelry with Your Casual Plus Size Clothing

November 25th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

Comfortable and casual plus size clothing looks great no matter where you go and what you are doing.  A basic tank top serves as the perfect starting layer for a nice outfit.  Add a stylish separate, like a tunic jacket or button up blouse, and you have already created a fantastic look.  Jewelry is the finishing touch that can make your outfit look amazing.  Remember to choose the right style of complementary jewelry with your casual plus size clothing.

Formal jewelry has a very specific style and goal.  Its shiny and luxurious gleam adds to the style of a formal gown in a way nothing else can.  But when you are wearing a casual or semi-casual outfit, you certainly don’t want to overdo it with your jewelry.  Some classic, simple styles will complement your casual outfit and make you look fantastic.

Simple chain necklaces are a classic look; they never go out of style and always look great with a nice casual outfit.  Mix and match gold and silver chains to complement your style.  For a more colorful and fun casual look, use beaded necklaces.  You can find these in all colors and sizes, from short necklaces with small beads to long opera length necklaces strung with huge beads.

When you are choosing what jewelry to wear with your casual plus size clothing, remember to choose classic looks that are true to your personal style.  Simple chain necklaces and bracelets always look great.  Colorful beaded jewelry also adds a nice touch to any outfit.  Some jewelry designers are even making plus size jewelry, specifically designed to fit a larger woman and complement her figure.

Plus Size Clothing Casual Styles

November 19th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

The plus size clothing market is growing and that is good news for curvy women everywhere.  Instead of designing unflattering clothing that hides the beauty of big women, fashion designers are creating designs that accentuate our strengths.  Women of all shapes and sizes can finally look and feel gorgeous in their outfits.  But some middle aged women are finding that plus size clothing casual styles are harder to find than they expected.

The Internet has become the best place to find mature plus size clothing for women.  A few designers have created lines with older women in mind, and the styles look fantastic.  Lots of women have decided to shop exclusively online, and it’s no surprise.  Local stores don’t offer anywhere near the amount of stylish options that you can find on the Internet.

There are plenty of designers focusing on fashionable dresses and formal wear for women.  But the fact of the matter is that we don’t wear fancy dresses day in and out.  Casual plus size clothing made to be comfortable and stylish is what women really want.  Adding some simple, classic pieces to your wardrobe will go a long way to making you look and feel great.

Looking Fashionable While Staying Warm

November 14th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

When the temperatures start dropping, we find ourselves pulling last year’s winter pieces from the backs of our closets, and usually react in one of two ways: either we’re refreshed to see the sweaters and long-sleeved favorites, or we’re frustrated not only with the cold, but an outdated wardrobe as well. When it comes to office plus size clothing, there are ways we can prevent this conundrum—prompting us to the former every winter season.

Think Classic

Whereas it is important to buy a trendy piece or two, or even grab some funky shoes or accessories, a classic base for your office wardrobe is essential for feeling good about your wardrobe the next year. Because trends and our opinions fluctuate year after year, what was incredibly “hot” last year may look tacky and outdated today. Build up a classic base for your winter office wardrobe. Include dress slacks that are comfortable, varied in color, and will look good with boots. Versatility reigns supreme when it comes to this base wardrobe.

Think Warm

One thing will never change for you when the winter comes: It’s going to be cold. When building up your classic office wardrobe, be sure to pick fabrics that will be appropriate. A satin-type top may have been trendy last winter, but a warmer knit in a neutral color is likely a better decision. Be sure to purchase pieces that can be layered—as temperatures vary between the office, the outside, your home, and the car. Being comfortable is vital for feeling confident and working well.

There is no “one wardrobe fits all” plan for office plus size clothing. Creating a classic base that is weather-appropriate, however, will allow you to get more creative with accessories and avoid dread when you pull those clothes out from the back of the closet.

Putting “Oomf” into Clothing At Any Age

November 6th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

Though we certainly shouldn’t stray too far from acting our ages, there’s no reason that middle age plus size clothing should suffer from looking too old—it’s how old we feel at heart that really matters, after all. Putting a little “oomf” into your wardrobe doesn’t have to be difficult either, and doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. With all of these limitations busted, what have you got to lose?

Spice it up!

Buy yourself something nice. A woman needs no excuse to shop. Adding just one new top, skirt, or funky scarf will freshen up a wardrobe and give you a bit of a boost. It doesn’t have to be a large purchase, just something that stands out from the classics (I’ve thrown out the phrase “old reliables”).

Don’t forget to accessorize.

There’s no easier way to make your appearance pop than to add a fun accessory to the mix. Try a chunky piece of jewelry, or shoes in a color you wouldn’t usually purchase. It doesn’t have to be a pair of magenta stilettos to make your appearance look younger (nor do you want to look that young anyway).

Bold does the trick.

Here the magenta is probably popping back up in your mind—but no! It could be a lovely shade of orange, or a deep purple. Try classic fits in different colors to stay comfortable but add just a little something eye-catching. There’s nothing more energizing than adding a bit of brightness into your day.

Above all else, remember to be confident in your middle age plus size clothing. Confidence radiates as vitality, and there’s nothing more “oomf” than a beautiful, confident smile to go along with that outfit you’re wearing.

Staying Comfortable At The Office in Plus Size Clothing

October 31st, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

A smart, professional wardrobe is absolutely essential for working women.  If you spend long days in the office, you don’t just want to look great, you also want your outfit to be comfortable.  It can be difficult to find office appropriate plus size clothing since many retailers simply don’t stock such items.  But if you shop online for your office apparel, you are sure to find lots of variety.

Whether it’s your first day or you’re a long time employee at the office, plus size clothing needs to show off your best professional style.  That doesn’t mean you need to run out and buy a designer suit.  Instead, choose some comfortable plus size tops that are simple, classic, and stylish.  A button up blouse layered over a matching tank top works great.  You can find tanks and blouses in all kinds of different colors, so don’t limit yourself to just plain old black!

Remember that you’ll be spending long hours in your office apparel, so make sure it fits your body well and feels comfortable all day long.  Lots of online retailers feature plus size clothing for the office in a variety of sizes.  Before you buy, check out the store’s sizing guide so you can get the perfect fit.  When you stroll into the office with your stylish new outfit, it will be sure to impress.

Freshen Up Your Wardrobe With Plus Size Cover-Ups

October 25th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

Have you ever felt like you’re in the middle of a long term fashion slump?  I know I have, and I hate it.  I hate feeling like I don’t want to leave the house because I don’t like any of my outfits.  But I don’t feel that way anymore thanks to several new plus size cover-ups I recently picked up.  They look great and are super easy to combine with other clothing I already have.

One of biggest frustrations when I buy a new blouse or jacket is thinking, “I love this, but what am I going to wear it with?”  So now I try to choose cover-ups and jackets that are versatile.  Like the casual cover-up I just bought.  I got it in black so that I could coordinate with lots of different tops.  And so far, I love it.  It’s light, cool, comfortable, and really cute.

If you’ve had a hard time putting together new outfits you like, try freshening up your wardrobe with plus size cover-ups and jackets.  They come in all kinds of colors and styles, from casual and versatile black to dressy reds with fashionable prints.  I find that a nice cover-up over a simple blouse or tank top works great.  Whether I’m running errands, going out to dinner with friends, or just in the office plus size clothing needs to be comfortable and versatile, and these cover-ups are just what I wanted.

Elegant Plus Size Jackets For Fall

October 17th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

The mercury is dropping on thermometers everywhere; it’s definitely starting to feel like fall!  I couldn’t be more thrilled, I love the season and am enjoying wearing plus size jackets of all styles.  I find that it’s important to have a variety of jackets so no matter what I’m doing I can have a comfortable outfit to keep me warm.  Casual jackets are great for everyday activities, but what about those special occasions?

Elegant plus size jackets are the perfect way to create a dressy yet comfortable outfit for a special occasion this fall.  Make sure you choose jackets with a comfortable fit that will not be too tight in the arms, chest, or hip.  My favorite jacket in my closet is light blue with a stylish print and black trim.  It has wide sleeves and looks great when I want to dress up for a special night out.

Whether you’re heading out to special dinner with friends and family, a formal work event, or any other special occasion, a dressy jacket is a great choice.  Middle age plus size clothing is easy to combine with classy jewelry to create an elegant outfit that is sure to get you noticed.  A simple yet elegant outfit featuring a dressy jacket is a total win for this season.

Plus Size Separates for Fall

October 10th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

I recently read a lovely quote about autumn: “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”  I’ve always loved the fall color palette; intense reds, oranges, and yellows with browns and dark greens.  So this season, I’m looking for mature plus size clothing for women that reflects the beautiful natural colors all around me.

Besides color, I also want a versatile fall wardrobe that leaves me ready for both warm and chilly weather.  For me, there is nothing better than layering separates to create a comfortable and versatile outfit.  I found one beautiful jacket with purple, red, and blue accents.  It’s button up, so I can leave it open on warm days or close it up and stay warm on breezy fall evenings.

Comfortable and casual plus size clothing for fall is definitely the way to go.  I’m loving some of the separates, jackets, and covers I’ve found.  They make it easy to create a layered look that’s perfect for anything, from shopping to a night out on the town.

Where’s the Deals!?

October 7th, 2010 by Lisa Metcalf

If you’re anything like me, you’re scrambling to find the best deal in all areas of the shopping world—be it groceries, pet care, or travel arrangements. Finding casual plus size clothing, then, is incredibly important as well. With the world seemingly moving at the speed of light, technology has allowed us to shop smarter. This is certainly true, and a fantastic tool that can be used to find those deals much quicker, and much easier.

Price Comparisons Online

It’s amazing—with the click of a button, you can see the full inventory of all of your favorite stores online, as well as those that are only hosted online. In this way, you can pick out some of the pieces that you find really fabulous, jot down the price, and then (if the store is local), go try it on without having to search through endless racks of clothing. While you may not be able to try on clothing from online stores, they tend to be a bit cheaper, and there are plenty out there that cater specifically to bigger body types.

The best part? As is the case with Comfort in Fashion, “liking” a plus size fashion shop’s Facebook page and following them on Twitter usually results in the SALES FINDING YOU!

Check the Sales Racks

You may think that only the stores you can physically walk into have sales racks—but this is not the case. Every time I hop on a retail website, I always start with the clearance tab. Much of this clothing may not be unattractive, but could be from previous collections that aren’t the hot new “thing.” Regardless, there are affordable pieces to be found both on the digital as well as physical sales and clearance racks in the stores.

These are only a couple, tips, of course—but finding attractive, affordable, and quality casual plus size clothing can be a breeze if you do your homework and find where those deals are hiding. It’s usually right under your nose!
