Shopping Online But Not Alone

February 28th, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

girl shopping

Girls love shopping for plus size clothing with girlfriends, but these days we are doing more online shopping. That means no dressing room chats, no second opinion on that outfit you’re not sure of, and no more splurging on lunch! But you don’t have to shop alone just because you’re shopping online.

Facebook and Twitter are amazing tools for stumbling upon news, jokes, and sales! If I go into my Twitter account now (@ComfortNFashion) and do a quick search on “plus size,” I see other plus size girls like me posting links to plus size dresses they just found and love so much they want to share. Even my own tweets pop up, where I share exciting casual plus size clothing sales with my followers. And sales from other plus size clothing companies pop up too.
I also see links to interesting articles on all kinds of topics, like plus size fashion shows, models, and trends to get new ideas.

Another thing I like to do is take a quick pic of myself in a new outfit, either in a dressing room or at home in something I just bought online, and post it to my Facebook account. I can even set these posts to just go to the friends I want them to go to, and hide them from co-workers or that guy I’m dating, and I can get those 2nd opinions from my girlfriends that we women love so much (at least, we love it from the girls who know how to give constructive criticism).

Plus Size Clothing Styles for Work

February 15th, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

women's business clothing

I think us large gals look awesome in business plus size clothing. We can do so much with a tailored suit with a skirt and a crisp white blouse. The added bonus is using tailored clothes to our advantage, playing up our strengths and hiding our weaknesses. What is not to like?

Let us see what we can do with the classic suit. There is so much that can be done creatively here. We can go three pieces with pants, vest and jacket, or two piece with a jacket and skirt. The versatility is endless.

Those who are proportioned, a la Marilyn Monroe, can do so much with this look. Consider a tailored single-breasted blazer with a knee-length skirt and a jewel-toned blouse. Maybe a pair of kitten heels to finish off the look. I think this is professional, feminine, and sexy all at once.

For those who have great calves but little else to flaunt, go with a below-the-knee pencil skirt.  Borrow a shirt from the casual plus size clothing area with a princess seamed shirt. The shirt gives great illusions of having a waist and a bust, while the length and slim cut of the skirt draw the eyes downward towards those great gams. If you’ve got ‘em, flaunt ‘em!

And let us not leave out the top heavy gals, shall we? This can be one of the trickiest shapes to balance out. Having the chest stick out above everything else means everyone’s eyes are going to go, well, there.  Stay sober in your choice of colors, although narrow pinstripes are a definite yes. Wear tailored jackets as much as possible, even though it may go against your grain. The reason for this is that a shapeless cut looks that much worse. I want my eye to be drawn away from the bust, not to it.

Business plus size clothing provides plenty of options for girls with curves. Go have fun and play with the endless configurations this style provides!

February 7th, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

The fashion world is a constantly changing landscaping of incoming and outgoing trends.  I don’t know how young people keep up with the constant switches of what’s “in” and “out”.  So many of these trends are dictated by fashion designers and the entertainment industry.  But middle age plus size clothing for women doesn’t have to be pulled to and fro by changes in trends.  It can stay classic, classy, and still totally stylish.

Some fashion designers have realized that, for a long time, it was nearly impossible to find stylish outfits for plus size women in their 40’s and 50’s.  It’s very fortunate that we can now get a wide variety of styles in comfortable fits and sizes.  From basic pieces like tank tops, blouses, and pants, to casual separates, to formal dresses, middle aged women are no longer being ignored by designers.

There are plenty of clothing stores and designers creating new, trendy styles for women.  But lots of mature women want classic, comfortable, casual styles to choose from too.  If you have trouble finding casual plus size clothing in local stores, try shopping online.  That’s the best way to get top quality clothing with a great fit.

Plus Size Undergarments Help Make You Look Great

January 22nd, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

Plus size women now have more clothing options than they ever did in the past.  They can choose from modern trends and classic styles too.  Regardless of what your personal style may be, it is important to use quality undergarments to help you look your best.  It can be hard, though, to choose the best bras, panties, and shape wear for you.

Before you decide which undergarments to buy, decide what you want it to do you for you.  Are you looking for a more comfortable bra?  Or do you want one that will work with a specific dress or blouse?  Are you interested in shape wear to give you a trimmer figure?  Answering these and other questions before you go shopping will help you get exactly what you want.

One of the most important things you can do to feel more comfortable in your undergarments is to get the right size.  When you go shopping for casual plus size clothing, you always make sure to get the right fit.  The same goes for underclothes, especially bras.  Wearing a bra that is not the right size for you will be uncomfortably and will not look as nice as the properly sized one would.

If you are not sure what size bra you should wear, speak to a professional fitter or visit a lingerie shop and speak with the sales clerks.  They can help you find a comfortable bra that will make do a lot to accentuate your figure.  When you have the right undergarments, you can shop for mature plus size clothing for women knowing you will look great.

Dress Up Basic Plus Size Clothing with Simple Accessories

January 22nd, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

I love simple outfits that don’t take a lot of planning.  I want to look nice without having to over think what I’m wearing.  I find that separates that mix and match well make for the perfect wardrobe.  But sometimes I want to jazz up a simple outfit with some nice accessories.

You can make even a basic ensemble seem much more formal with the right jewelry.  A dressy black or red jacket looks great with a nice necklace.  And a super casual outfit can get a nice style boost from the right earrings and bracelets.  When I buy a blouse or jacket, I try to find one or two pairs of matching accessories.  That way I can wear the same clothes but feel like I’ve got a totally new outfit on.

Accessories like necklaces, bracelets, watches, earrings, and hand bags are fun to match with outfits.  They look nice with lots of different styles of casual plus size clothing.  If you shop around, you can get great sale prices on accessories to help complete your wardrobe.

Wear casual plus size clothing and look fabulous

January 20th, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

casual plus size

No woman is made the same. We come in all shapes and sizes, and most women do not look like the models in the catalogs or on the runways. Not even the plus size models! Thankfully there is casual plus size clothing that is made to make us look our best wherever we may go.

What many plus size women need to understand is that you do not have to buy clothing based solely on the fact that it fits. Many plus size women will choose clothing that is not a flattering print or color just because it is their size. There are so many colors and styles available in plus sizes just like there are for women that wear smaller sizes.

Many plus size pants are made with elastic waistbands which helps create increased mobility and comfort around the workplace, working outside the yard, or going out with friends. Casual plus size tops make for a more flattering shape without having that annoying bulge in between buttons. As long as the size fits you can find many styles that are in touch with the current fashion trends so you will no longer have to worry about finding a style that looks outdated.

As a plus size woman, you should never settle for less. Get the casual plus size clothing sizes that fit, in the styles you love and at the right price.

Flatter Your Unique Shape

January 12th, 2011 by Lisa Metcalf

plus size dress

Middle age plus size clothing for women is available in a variety of styles that are flattering to all shapes. When shopping for an evening dress, first find your shape then search for your style dress for the evening.

Pear Shape

Pear shape is a term used for women whose bottom and hips are wider than their hip/waist ratio. There are a number of styles that are available to you and numerous ways to tweak the style to make you look amazing in evening wear. Add length by wearing a jacket with shoulder pads, this will create a ‘V’ shape down to your stomach giving you a smaller waist.

Apple Shape

Apple shape is a term that describes women whose mid-section is larger than their hips. If this best describes you then vertical/horizontal stripes can be your enemy, as can fabric that is too clingy.

Banana Shape

Banana shape is when your bust, waist and hips all measure the same. If this is your shape, find a dress that can enhance your hips and your bust. The best evening dress option for you may be one that gathers around the hips.
