Shopping and Saving? Possible

December 2nd, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

Yes, it is that time of year!  I always give myself a budget for my annual Christmas shopping.  However, each year I go over my budget.  It is not much – maybe $100 or less.  I think that is pretty good (especially when I want to shop for plus size clothing for myself!).  A couple things I do is:

1. Buy books, music, kitchenware, bedding and men’s gear online.  This saves on the gas, parking meters and having to buy yourself a snack and drink!  Also you can get free shipping and additional discounts.

2. You can buy in bulk and then separate gifts for individual wrapping.  Great for stocking stuffers.

3. Shop with a girlfriend.  She can add to your check-out and possible more discounts.

4. Get flyers from your favorite stores and shop early in the morning.

5.  if you are buying fashionable clothing at discount stores for friends make sure you know their color and size.  I suggest snapping a photo of them onto your phone.  This will help you decide later.

Good-luck!  Even Mrs. Claus loves to shop, lol

Fall Colors for Plus Size Womens Clothing

November 11th, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

I’m finally starting to feel the chilly fall weather in the air. And I must say, I love it! But the temperature isn’t the only change that autumn brings. I’m also thrilled for plus size womens clothing in fall colors. The changing of the leaves is inspiring some changes in my own wardrobe.

Some women shy away from casual plus size clothing in strong colors like red, orange, and yellow. But I disagree – embrace those colors! Red is a very flattering color that can give you a lovely look for this fall.

I love the colors in the Dressy Batik Separate with Wide-Sleeves. It reminds me of fall colors, but with a creative touch that is very stylish. It’s definitely going to be a part of my fall wardrobe.

What plus size womens clothing tips do you have for fall?

To Sleeve or Not Sleeve?

November 10th, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

Most plus size women’s clothing or clothing in general is just a basic body with sleeves. Ok you want a good fit at the chest and the tummy. And you want to look great! But what about sleeves? Did designers forget out that? Sure younger women tend to wear sleeveless without a shrug (there arm muscles are still strong – gravity has not taken over!). Here is a list of options for women looking for plus size clothing. Which one do you prefer?

Expressive and Colorful Plus Size Womens Clothing

Expressive and Colorful Plus Size Womens Clothing

It is amazing how differently two people can perceive beauty. But at the same time, that is one of the things that makes each of us unique and allows this world to be a truly enjoyable place to live. Though many women have been made to feel negatively about their appearance in the past, modern plus size womens clothing is changing that.

The goal of beautiful plus size clothing should be to flatter a women and allow her to express her personal style. Some ways designers achieve this include:

  • Ample use of color
  • Form-enhancing cuts that do not hide a curvy shape
  • Varied clothing lines that take many different tastes into consideration.

One of my favorite recent examples is this hand painted tunic. It combines plenty of color with what has become a very popular tunic style. When it comes to plus size womens clothing, I definitely feel that more colorful and expressive is the right direction for designers to take.

What do you think?

Sometimes It is ALL in the Details, No?

November 3rd, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

Of course you want a good fit, then style and then what? Sometimes it is the plus size clothing details that pull it all together. Plus size apparel details can be added at the neckline, sleeve or throughout the clothing’s body. The Graceful Scoop Neck w/ Gathered Shape is an example of using the basic tunic top and adjusting it. We made the neckline more plunging, we add some contrasting trim as the collar, we gathered the ends at the hip to give more shape …. Yeah stuff like that! It’s fun find women’s plus size tops that incorporate fashion designs. Often I tend to wear my husband’s big cotton shirt on Sunday mornings! Just want to be casual and relax!

Thinking About Texture and Plus Size Clothing

October 4th, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

When it comes to your plus size clothing, finding the right fit is essential. That means getting a dress that hugs your curves without being clingy; that flatters your figure without hiding it. But one factor that some women forget to consider is the texture of their clothing. Why is the texture of your blouses, skirts, and dresses so important to your style?

The way a fabric is textured also affects the way it looks on you. A heavier texture will tend to appear darker and thicker. Lightly textured or sheer fabrics offer an airy, light look thanks to their unique fabrics. Obviously, there is not right or wrong way to choose textures when you are shopping or putting together an outfit. But it is important to think about how they will affect your appearance.

It can be especially hard to choose new plus size clothing based on texture when you are shopping online. Since you cannot physically see or touch the fabric before making a purchase, you could try emailing the store’s customer service department before buying. And remember to check their return policy so you can make a return or exchange if the fabric turns out to be not what you were looking for.

Light And Cool Casual Plus Size Clothing

May 21st, 2012 by Lisa Metcalf

Spring is here and the temperature will keep on rising straight into summer. This is the perfect time to go through your wardrobe and start using light and cool casual plus size clothing. It’s also a great moment to add some new fashions to your close that will look amazing during the warmer weather months.

Light, breathable fabrics are ideal for spring and summer. Cotton, linen, and jersey all look nice. Lighter colors are also quite flattering during these months, so use plus size separates in white, pastels, and other colors that reflect the season. Mix and match blouses, skirts, and slacks make creating a summer ensemble easy.

Remember that staying cool and comfortable is just as important as looking good. You may love the way you look in a casual plus size clothing top made from heavier fabric. But save it for fall. Spring and summer are all about light, cool, and relaxing plus size clothing.
