Mother-of-the-Bride: Plus Tradition

My mother was a thin stylish woman. She really had good taste in women’s clothing. I was always a large person. So, my mom taught me how to select plus size clothing that is attractive and enhances my beauty. I remember going to high-end chain stores like Lord and Taylor for dresses. I would pick and she would critique. We would discuss color, texture and form. When I was young we bought short tops and as I aged the length of things got longer. She was good at it until she out dressed me at my rehearsal dinner! LOL. She looked beautiful in her red flapper dress. There was no way I could compete with that fashion. I loved her and I hated her for that! She got so many compliments! I was proud because she was the mother-of-the-bride. Later, when my daughter married I borrowed my mother’s red flappy dress! It’s now a tradition.

Plus Size Clothing: Bead Me!

I have mix feelings about tops with beading at the neckline. I really like looking at decorative shirts in clothing stores online and offline. I tend not to buy them but I started to rethink this. Recently, I was invited to a dinner event at the beach. I found this cute zipper front caftan with sequins sewn all about the neckline. The shirt was black and the beads were also black. I like the sparkle it gave off and it seemed perfect for a beach occasion. I bought it. When I tried it on at the shop it seemed ok, but when I got home it looked fantastic. It was a new me! I added my silk pants and some high-end flats. I have black pearl earring studs that made the ensemble! I guess my philosophy is sometimes you have to walk outside of your comfort zone. Plus size clothing can be stylish. It’s how you see yourself in the mirror.
